Skincare products formulated by Rooptaan and inspired by Ayurveda
Welcome to my world of natural, herbal skincare. These are the butters and scrubs created for the everyday woman who believe in the holistic principles of beauty. We can understand chemistry in a way that is natural and beneficial to us, makes us not only look healthy but feel beautiful too.
Rooptaan in Bengali simply means skin care treatments. In broader terms, it denotes the packs, baths, massages, rubs and lotions that women have put on their skin for centuries to heal and rejuvenate complexion. These are simply the leaves, bark, seeds and natural extracts that women could get from the garden or in the kitchen to use on an everyday basis.
"Roop" means beauty and "Taan" means a pull. The idea is to pull out the dirt and impurities from the deep layers of skin and nourish it back to a healthy state.
Some of the recipes have been passed down from grandmothers that they have perfected over time, some incorporated from modern herbals.
For example neem leaves paste with turmeric is a typical summer Rooptaan.
I come from a place where people would simply pick some neem leaves from a garden plant, make a paste with turmeric on a household mortar and pestle and apply that pack before bath. And guess what, it works. It worked to cure me of acne and scars and I am sure it has helped millions of others to get rid of skin irritations.
I believe in restoring good skin with Rooptaan and without the unnecessary emulsifiers and shelf life extenders. Beauty can be and should be an ethical and clean business where people can choose and decide every item that goes in the products they use.
