Most of us would rather be happy with one dependable salve to deal with all the problems that fall and winter throws on us. I have depended on this salve for a lot of skincare irritations from chapped skin to dry flakiness to cuts and scratches. So here it goes
To make herbal salve you will need
2 ounces of olive oil
1 ounce coconut oil
1 ounce evening primrose oil
11/2 ounce beeswax
1 table spoon each of lavender flowers, rose buds and calendula stems.
Essential oils of rose, lavender and calendula
Take a double boiler,( a bowl set over a pan of boiling water) and add the beeswax.
Once it melts, add olive oil and coconut oil and bring it to heat and add the herbs. Let gently simmer for 4 minutes.
Add primrose oil and turn off heat and let cool slightly. Remove the bowl containing the oil mix from water pan and set on counter
(Glass jar will break if very hot oil is poured in it.)
Now add a few drops of jojoba oil in the sterilized 4 ounce glass jar and add 10 drops each of the 3 essential oils.
Take a strainer, (reserved solely for this purpose, cause once used, it cannot be used for food purposes again) and strain out the oil - beeswax melt from the herbs in the sterilized glass jar over the essential oils. Use your fingers to squish out the herbs to get all the oils out and stir in the mix with a spoon.
Let cool at room temperature. Never put in fridge because the surface will crack.
Cover when its cooled and semi solid. Consistency should be that you are able to scoop with a finger. Can be stored in an airtight container for 6 months.
